Grand Bay is situated in the southwestern part of Mobile County, a few miles inland from the Mississippi Sound, with the Mississippi state line just 3 miles (5 km) to the west. Since 1973, the Grand Bay Watermelon Festival has been a cherished July 4 tradition, attracting both tourists and locals. This annual event allows visitors to savor locally grown watermelon while immersing themselves in local music, arts and crafts, and informative displays from area merchants and service providers.
The landscape surrounding Grand Bay features vast expanses of rural land, much of which is dedicated to pecan tree cultivation—a legacy from the days of the Grand Bay Land Company. While many pecan orchards have transitioned into residential home sites, pecan production remains a significant and valuable industry, offering supplemental income to residents employed in non-agricultural sectors.
Moreover, Grand Bay has emerged as a hub for peach cultivation, contributing to a thriving peach business in the area. Additionally, satsumas, once susceptible to freezing temperatures, have made a successful comeback in commercial production, thanks to the introduction of more weather-resistant varieties. This diversification in agricultural activities reflects the resilience and adaptability of the community to changing economic and climatic conditions.
